The conception of BASEbelt first started when I was researching clothing requirements for a human mission to Mars and then narrowed the focus towards an apparel that would be useful for earth exploration and an adventurous lifestyle. I wanted to do something meaningful, create a movement brand for an active lifestyle, and be an inspiration for my infant daughter.
Exploration and an adventurous lifestyle have been an inspiration to me from my upbringing on the Big Island of Hawaii. My mother would force us to enjoy the outdoors while growing up she would tell us to go holoholo (go out for leisure). It is important to inspire an active lifestyle in our younger generation as they will grow up in this new digital dependent generation which diverts us away from things that keep us healthy like getting off our butts, exercising, or physically observing our surroundings.
Research has revealed the younger generation is becoming weaker, less muscular, and unable to do tasks that the previous generation found simple. I am witnessing this first hand as I re-enlisted into the Army national guard after a 9-year break I realized there are more soldiers reporting uncommon injuries such as hip and pelvis fractures during physically demanding training exercises today than 10 years ago.
A decision was made high up in the Army organization to implement a new Occupational Physical Assessment Test or OPAT to help reduce injuries and properly place soldiers to respective military occupational specialties. There is no simple solution to this problem in the civilian sector but after receiving positive feedback from others we believe the BASEbelt can help promote an active lifestyle and create a cultural shift in order to build movement back into our younger generation.
Our name BASEbelt stands for Be Active, Search, & Explore to help drive the fundamental human desire to live an adventurous lifestyle. Our logo represents the first letter in "base" and the first letter in "belt" but has a double and hidden meaning to represent build movement back. You can see the letter m inside the bb. The letter m was also stretch to form a forward motion feeling.
Our mission is to create products and content that will inspire the younger generation to get out and be Earth Adventurers to explore and share their adventures with families and friends. This is why we created BASEbelt and want you to be part of our community and help share our message.
Hey Hawaii – When was the last time we shared some good news with our neighbors?
Hawaii residents had the highest well-being in the nation for the sixth straight year and we want to finish 2017 strong to ensure well-being remains the highest in the nation as monitored by Gallup-Sharecare Well-Being Index™.
What is the Gallup-Sharecare Well-Being Index?
In 2008, Gallup and Sharecare initiated a 25-year partnership, merging decades of clinical research, health leadership, and behavioral economics research to track and understand the key factors that drive well-being. The Gallup-Sharecare Well-Being Index provides an in-depth, nearly real-time view of Americans' well-being. Having an awareness of U.S. residents' well-being provides unmatched insights into people at the community, state, and national levels. The Well-Being Index measures Americans' perceptions of their lives and their daily experiences through five interrelated elements that make up well-being: sense of purpose, social relationships, financial security, relationship to community, and physical health. Why start this NO CHANGE campaign?
Help us start this NO CHANGE campaign to share with others and continue to track Hawaii as the highest well-being state for 2017 in the nation.
I want to share one of the biggest secrets that makes Hawaii the happiest place to live and why I created this campaign to support this healthy lifestyle. Part of growing up in Hawaii, our parents have pressed us to go out and enjoy the outdoors and experience the beauty of Hawaii. When you influence your Keiki (children) to go out-doors with no purpose direction or reason and find the bliss of adventure we call this Holoholo.
The literal translation for holoholo is to go out for leisure… but holoholo means so much more: It means to connect with nature, family, and friends and to make memories, stories, and live in moment. Holoholo has been a big influence on health and well-being of our culture in Hawaii by the way we experience the natural world, explore new things, and how we embrace one another.
Holoholo is not only a lifestyle that can be lived in Hawaii. Some can argue that Isaac Newton discovered Gravity because when he went out for a holoholo. Holoholo can clear your mind and allow you to look at life in a simpler and more pleasant manner. We all need to embrace a moment of holoholo when life gives us stress, anxiety, or sorrows.
I created this NO CHANGE campaign and my company BASEbelt.com (Be Active, Search, and Explore) to help spread not only the Aloha the world has got to know and love, but the Holoholo we should be doing to live a healthy and happy life.
Please help share this campaign with as many people to support our NO CHANGE movement and let everyone know of the secret to maintaining our healthy lifestyle to improve our well-being. If we get over 50,000 pledges BASEbelt will write a petition to Governor David Ige and the Hawaii State Capitol to lobby for a State Holiday called Holoholo Day. The goal is to educate and encourage Hawaii residents to continue to Be Active, Search, & Explore the islands and not take for granted the natural beauty of Hawaii. It is these islands that provide the inspiration for us to continue to set the standard for healthy and happy living in the United States.
